What's wrong with this quilt?

I am jumping into this thread late, but before I read the whole 5 pages of , so far, awesome ideas, this is what I see. First, this is my favorite go to pattern. I love your colors. Regardless of if it is a Christmas quilt or not, the color scheme is right on (IMHO). Green and red are complimentary colors. I think the lighter yellow that you chose is a better contrast, since the same gold would not have been such an effective contrast. Lastly, I think the secondary row (the one that you chose to use the smaller squares sashed in red) would have looked more 3-D if the square would have been the same size as the on in the primary block. But-- the sashed blocks are such an inovative variation! I love this quilt. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and your quilt a beauty !

This post has been so helpful to me. I did the same thing in green, red, a splash of white and gold. But it just didn't have the impact that I thought it should have had. The fabrics were so lovely and very "matchy-matchy". I took leftovers from that quilt and made a medallion, added borders, and everyone prefers the leftover to the planned one. I think now I see why after reading the comments. It has opened my eyes since the second one had a lot of different fabrics although all in Christmas fabrics, but it is by far my favorite of the two--and it was an accident. Sometimes we aim and discover we missed our target. But everyone has a different lens to see things.
