Most of mine have been purchased with specific projects in mind.
I have a whole selection for my French Braid quilt, and another selection for two Toni Whitney applique patterns.
Most of mine would be considered "solids", but I like the multicolor batiks as well.
Edit: See dotcomdtcm's quilt above. Absolutely gorgeous because she used the multicolor batiks.

Well, I must say that I am thrilled that you have a seashell batik and am anxiously awaiting its arrival! I have only bought a few for Pacific Rim needle turn projects. Now that we are going to be snowbirds in the coming future, I am finding more of an attraction to them.

I love batiks. One thing I like about them is they can be used together even if they have different colors in them. I made a log cabin and used batiks of many colors and they made a beautiful quilt. That's not to say you could never choose wrong, but they are easy to blend.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Batiks - it is the first fabric section I visit in my LQS or online. I love the prints, but prefer them to be in 2-3 colors. The multicolored batiks can be tricky to use. I have a large collection of patterns that are just begging to be made with batiks
