    I only steam if its a heavy seam or fabric I find that setting a warm iron on every thing else works just fine

    If the fabric has been pre=washed, use steam.
    If not, don't use steam. Steam might shrink the fabic.
    I made a block of unwashed fabric, used steam and it shrunk about 1/2 inch.

    Tried steam ONCE and visually and immediately I saw distortion/shrinkage.
    From reading all the above . . . I guess I best prewash all fabrics from here on out.

    I sometimes steam, sometimes don't steam. It depends on the fabric, pattern, etc.
