    I guess I'm in the middle. I don't steam per se but I use a small (slightly)
    damp cloth and press the seam only. That's the only way I can get flat
    seams without distortion/shrinkage.

    I bought an old featherline iron. Handle folds down so it can go to class or sit n sew. No steam but you really have to watch your fingers very hot iron.

    I usually don't iron anything until the quilt top is finished. I do finger press, and use a Japanese folding bone and a small wooden roller/brayer to press the seams down. My points meet and my quilts are square and i can't be bothered jumping up and down to iron all of the time.
