I love my Martelli cutting mat. I've had it over 7 years and no cuts. It is reversible. Yellow on one side and purple on the other. They are expensive but well worth the price. They on now on the HSN channel every so often. You find them at quilt shows.

It seems the Gingher's are a little better at not getting full of burrs like the Olfa's or the opaque white ones. I forgotten the name of those.

Somewhere on here there's a thread about how to freshen up old mats by gently washing them with a fiber scrubber then soaking them in the bathtub and laying them flat to dry. I like anything that's self healing but I prefer the one that rotates. They're expensive but I wait for a 50% off coupon so that I can get them for around $23.

Do you use the Martelli ruler and cutter too? I want to see these before I buy...but opinions help too.

I have a self healing Omnigrid that I "refresh" every now and then by laying it on the dining table, laying soaked wet towels on top and then I lay a plastic sheet over the towels and place books on top of those for weight. I'll leave like that for a few hours. Oh ... before I wet it down I 'scrape' the surface of it with the edge of my 4.5 square ruler. I may also do this after the "refresh".

I also have a non-healing HUGE Beba mat that more than covers my 35 x 60 table. I've been using this mat exclusively since May, but I recently got (from a member of QB) an 18" Olfa rotary mat which I love for it's turning ability. No more picking up and carefully replacing pieces.

Olfa green mats last along time. Have had a Martelli. To me wasn't worth the extra $

I have a Fiskars and a green Olfa. The green Olfa is my "go to" mat and the one I use all the time. It is like the Energizer bunny ... it just keeps going and going and going ...
