Do you have Mary Sue Suit's book "All the Blocks Are Geese"? There's not a special ruler for making flying geese her way. She uses one large square and one small square, right sides together. I was wondering if you've tried that method, and your opinion. TY for any insight....

Yep, that's the same method. And the book cover says "Flying Geese---the Fast Way"! I noticed on that great tutorial for which you posted the link, at the end it says Eleanor Burns' rulers use the same method, but without doing any math.

Everyone is mentioning they love their Eleanor Burns geese rulers. I have them and mine (the small set) are off by around 1/16 to 1/8 inch on the sides so it made my geese too narrow. I had to put them away and get a different set of rulers. Did I just get a mis-manufactured set??

It depends on the size. If I have the correct E Burns tool (and I have them ALL), I think this makes the most accurate geese. Otherwise, the Lazy Girl tool is good, too.

I've never been able to make a flying goose look right until I tried Ricky Timms method. They are very fast and turn out perfect! This is the only method I use now. It only makes one at a time, but boy do they look nice!!!

With Ricky Timms method, you don't waste ANY fabric AT ALL!!! You must be thinking of some other method.

jcrow--I am confused about what you say of no waste. It appears to me that HALF of the fabric used is wasted on the back side of the geese block?? Am I understanding the directions and the video correctly? Also, the geese "roof" is not sewed down (the video referred to it as a pocket) so it doesn't seem very functional. If you are referring to a different method I would love to be pointed in the right direction. I've only just started using geese in my quilts and it wasn't an entirely fun experience.

    Paper piece!!

I can make the paper pieces using Word. I turn the "grid" on and use lines to draw in word, and I can print out a string of them.
