What's your KEEP vs GIVE AWAY ratio?

I've kept 15 quilts (1/2 are for our dogs since they love them and my husband receives one each anniversary), gave away about 30 as gifts to family & friends, and perhaps 25 were sold (some in fundraising).

Lordy, I thought it was just me who never managed to hold on to a quilt or sewing project for myself. don't have a single quilt. had a dinner party yesterday and -no placemats-gave em to the kids. I best get making a new project list that has my name on somewhere! you too ladies!! Put your name on your list.

Until I retired in 2012, I made almost every quilt for a purpose/gift. Other than a few tablerunners, I had little to show for my efforts in my own home. IMHO, every quilter should have at least one of their own quilts on their own bed. Better yet, have a quilt for your bed for all 4 seasons. I've had a lot of fun the last couple of years backing up my own opinion.

Dh for christmas bought me a new machine and the card said, for all you do for others, this I do for you. And thats when it hit me. Everything has been given to someone else. In 10 years absolutley nothing did I make for myself.

Havent kept any I have made yet.
I was thinking today, I've made quite a few quilts but I really don't have that many that I've kept for myself. So, when I look at a ratio between the ones I've kept vs the ones I've given away..... well, I've given away a lot more. So, I'm currently working on 2 UFO quilts, one is for me, the other is a gift for my daughter's 25th wedding anniversary. And the next 2 UFOs are for me. But then, I have 4 quilts that I need to make for nieces and nephews. I want more of my quilts. I need to make a new rule. One for ME, one for someone else. That should work, don't you think?

I've lost count of the number of quilts I have made and then given away, with a couple quilts that were sold, and just a handful of quilts that are mine. Quilting to me is all about the process of making a quilt, as quilting is not only my addiction, it is my stress reducer, my solace in times of trial and grief, but always it is what makes me happy and making quilts for others makes me happy. I will say that I like your idea of making a quilt for someone and then making one for yourself. Great idea.

I have 5 quilts that I have made, and they are some of my earlier ones. I have given away many, many quilts and other projects. I have a couple UFO's, and I think they will remain with me. Hubby has also asked for a couple new things for the house. What a guy!

I've only kept 3 so far. The only one I ever hand quilted, my first sampler from my initial quilting classes and one that I liked too much to give away. I've given away 20 or 25 of them as gifts. I have 2 right now that will find a home with us, but there are several more that will find new homes at some point.
