    Default Wheelchair lap qult

I have been making a few lap quilts to be sent to our Veteran's Hospital in Wilkes Barre, PA. Mine are approximately 30 inches square and I'm wondering if they need to be a bit wider and longer. If any of the readers on this board have some experience with this project, I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

It might be that the veterans' hospital staff would have some preferences about size.
And, I wonder if a pocket in front would be appreciated, to hold tissue and such.

I like the thought that went into this design:

    bkay,

I agree! This looks like an ideal design for a wheelchair quilt!

Bkay, thank you so much for posting that Lovey Lap Quilt link! It will be the perfect Mother's Day gift for my mom in her assisted living situation; I was despairing about what to give her.

love the pocket. i have some double sided quilted fabric. five yards. i was wondering if i made them for a nursing home near me what size they should be. now to think about pockets. I will have to call them but the pocket would "make" the cream colored quilt.

    DorisMae904, NativeTexan and others ....
How kind for you to consider making these for others.
However, before you go "wild", please be sure to contact the home(s) that you are wanting to gift.
They may, or may not accept such.

If they do, they may have very specific instructions/requirements.
Not just size, but also fabrics, battings, etc. that can be used.
For some users, the addition of tying strings or velcro tabs could be an important feature.
For others, ties may be a danger, as if not tied in place, they could get caught in the wheels.

The Lovie Quilts are indeed Lovely!
.... great idea with the hand warming "muff" and pocket.
Maybe put a zipper on the pocket?

    Default Wheel

Our guild makes wheelchair quilts and ours are 40" square. It's a good enough size to cover some ones legs, but not get caught in the wheels of the chair
