I don't de-stash...I use the fabrics that don't catch my eye anymore to make a scrappy back for another quilt. I usually use the Rock Round The Block Pattern, or Yellow Brick Road, cut up stacks of fabric and just grab and sew. Sometimes the back looks better than the front. AND, it's lots of fun.

Destash? I couldn't find that word in the dictionary. Are you sure that is a word? The only thing closest to that in my dictionary is the word "stashed". Ha ha ha ha ha.

When I can't get the studio door shut anymore. OK just kidding. I overdye a lot of older stash. That way I get the new trend in colors with the fabric I haven't used. AND its fun seeing what happens to the over dyed fabric. Sometimes it comes out so ugly--and other times just beautiful.

I belong to a small quilting group and in August we had a fabric sale. I have a LARGE stash - so I went through it and took out all the stuff I had in there that when I looked at it now I thought "what was I thinking". Sold that and made $200.00 to buy stuff I like now.
Tastes change, and so do our needs. So, we put it all together like a regular garage sale and now it's gone. It was great. I don't even miss what I sold.
And believe me, I still have plenty...

This HUGH log cabin quilt I am making for me has come completely from my stash - must have 80 or 90 different pieces of material in it. Hope it works out, I need 180 7" squares and I'm up to 105. So there went a lot of my stash

    DE-STASH ?!?!?! Whats that ?!?!?!?

Nope, nope nope... cant do it.. Ill die by fabric avalanche first!!!!
Took the words right out of my mouth!!!
I laughed at that one. What is de-stash? My DDIL is a graphic artist and is itching to try making floorcloths. Well, she saw some at the LQS we went to a couple weeks ago; they looked like quilts, were actually pieces of fabric decoupaged on the the canvas. Anyhow....now she wants to go through my stash and find scraps I don't want any more so she can use them in her floorcloths. What?!?!? Give up my special fabric?!?!? Of course I didn't say any of this to her.

I think my material is growing. I have been doing scrappy quilts this year and I still have a lot to use up.

I get rid of things when I KNOW I won't use them. Calicoes from 30 years ago. Cheezy fabrics before I knew better. Stuff that I bought because - I don't know why anymore! And fabrics that I have already used. While I do love scrap quilts, I know I wonn't keep using a fabric over and over again, so I pass on the scraps to someone who will.

Applies to any stuff, actually. Not only fabric!
    I agree!

I know of too many Stash Sales because the quilters have passed away or are very ill. Both very sad, sad situations.
