Mine is out of control. I spent about 4 hours today straightening just one 5' bookshelf that has my fruit, food, nautical, sports and birthday prints and I counted 20 different cherry prints.

I have 3 pattern cabinets that are full.. each has 4 or 5 drawers (yes "real pattern cabinets" from when Piece Goods Shop closed down in our town), along with close to 12 bookshelves and numerious plastic containers that are sorted by holiday themes.

I keep telling myself I don't "need" all of this fabric but I don't see many I want to part with.
WOW!!! You must have a really, really, big sewing area. I would say room but I think all of that would take more than a room, maybe an entire basement area. I envy you in some way. I don't have a sewing room and only have a discarded microwave stand for storing my fabric and I have to use the kitchen table for sewing for one area of my kitchen is always a total mess.

I don't destash. If I get tired of something or decide it is unsuitable I make string quilts for the chihuahuas to sleep under. (They're always cold).

the only way i know of to destash is to keep sewing :), making stuff with all that fabric, after all, isn't that what we buy it for?
Yep, this is how I do it (rofl).

I did mine twice due to moves because of room but I still have some that have been around for a while.

What she said. When I de-stash I take it to a group, any group that does sewing for charity.

I very seldom destash. When I do it is because I have had the fabric for a very long time and I figure that I will never use it. I don't throw it away.

I DESTASH WHEN I NO LONGER THINK I WILL USE SOME OF THE FABRICS..NORMALLY I DONATE TO GROUPS OF WOMEN WHO MAKE QUILTS AND OTHER THINGS FOR THE POOR OR PEOPLE IN NEED. GENERALLY I MAKE QUILTS FOR ST JUDE AND CANCER PATIENTS THAT WE MET WHILE MY HUSBAND WENT THROUGH CHEMO. ALSO FOR NURSING HOME PATIENTS..AND FAMILY..SOME DAY I WILL MAKE ONE FOR MYSELF....I HAVE TWO FROM MY GREAT GRANDMA AND GENERALLY USE THEM..THEY ARE SO FULL OF LOVE

OH YES I love cherry fabric, and pears....in fact any fruity fabric I will buy. I am not sure why but it just appeals to me. Also roosters and chickens. Or a blue check with little red flowers. Playing with fabric puts me in a happy place. I still have some pieces I cannot cut. I think that makes me a fabricaholic and I do not want a cure.
