I watched a quilt shop employee demo how to make a block that is in a quilt book. It was easy to do and I came home and made several. If a shop is demoing a technique for free is it okay to post how it is done here? It's a very cleaver way to piece. The shop was pushing the fabric line used in the blocks not the book.

why not, we showed how to do bargello's; there are lots of books, we 'demo'd' how to do cathedral windows, again there's a book...a technique is not copyrighted, just the designs a person makes using the technique. if we could not show how to make interesting blocks no one would know how to make a log cabin block...it's just a technique and techiques are good to share :)

A technique cannot be copyrighted, but the name of it can be registered so watch what you call it if you do a tute. I agree with wvdek, check with Patrice to be safe and sure before you post your version.

Did Patrice give you permission to do this? I would really like to see the technique.
