The featherweight sews a beautiful straight stitch. I've made clothing with my featherweight , even a corduroy jacket, it did all the sewing without any problems at all.
What do you need for piecing quilts? A straight stitch of course, plus the machine only weighs about 11 pounds.
I've owned 8 featherweights over the years and sold all but 3 of them. The link below is of my current crop of featherweights.

I got my featherweight about 10 years ago...my aunt gave it to me...it was her mom's(my grandma's)...she had another one that she kept for herself...I am quite honored to have it....and if I am ever to give it up, my aunt asked that I try to keep it in the family.

After reading so many of the posts here about the FW I decided to check out EBAY...had never heard of them before, but you all convinced me that I was missing out on a joyful experience....Got mine last summer, and was SO EXCITED when it came, gave it a thourough cleaning and it sews like a charm...I've decided to name her Patsy Cline cause she's such a GOOD Singer!!...She has a pretty scroll face and I love her!

I bought my featherweight from a dear friend who was my quilting mentor. She had 3 or 4 featherweights and I drooled so pathetically that she finally sold me one. I love it and have used it almost exclusively for peicing quilts. I also have a Janome but for peicing quilts I prefer the featherweight. My friend died 4 years ago and I miss her dearly. We did so many things together.

I got mine in August 2010 as an early birthday present from Craigs List. The first time I saw it on there he asked $350 for it. I didn't want to pay that much b/c a man near 30 min. away had some for $275. A couple days later he had dropped the price to $250. My DH said i could get it. It was 1 hour away. My friend and I drove up and got it and on the way found a quilt shop-spent $100 there. lol the machine belonged to their mom and she was the only owner. She used it to sew dance costumes for her girls when they were little. she had recieved it as a graduation gift. It had al the original attachments and a button holer. the only thing missing were 4 bobbins and the oil can. it is a 1947 and in great condition.

My DH gave me my little FW for my birthday last month.It came with the attachments, bobbins,oil can, manual and the case and FW is in very good condition. I was doing the happy dance!

I just got mine last Friday, March 4th at an estate sale. There was only 1 owner and the there was a service tag on the case saying it had been serviced in illinos. She's a beauty! But I have to do about the foot pedal since the wires are cracked and I need to replace the handle on the carrying case.

The FW or Featherweight is the greatest machine I have ever sewn on. I have an $1800 Janome computerized (which I loved), and several other machines but always come back to my Lil' FW. I have 30 sewing machines that I have collected over the years and the only machine that comes close to the FW is my 301. I do a lot of FMQ on the FW. The FW and 301 are very similar construction but the 301 is a little larger and weighs a little more. The 301 is often referred to as the Big Sister of the FW. I got my 1st FW 2 years ago and haven't quit using it yet. I just love it.
