The WalMart not too far from me has David's Textiles fabric. I like it above the other brands sold there. It feels really nice.

until very recently i had only rarely seen David's in walmart. they're usually sold in shops. they fly off the shelves so fast it'll make you dizzy. the last time i went, though, they had new collections and a Quilt of the Month pattern. i just checked their website and almost every one of them is still listed, so these are current collections.

i bought some, washed them, and then compared them to fabrics i'd purchased at an LQS. cross my heart, they were of the same quality. in fact, when i asked a friend to pick out the one from walmart, she picked a $10 per yard LQS fabric. the wally fab cost me $2.97 per yard.

in general, i am a big fan of David's fabrics. be very careful, however, about buying their very darkest prints. dark blues and dark reds, especially.

i had a bad experience with some i bought recently from a few different LQS. the darkest blues and reds looked absolutely awful when they come out of the washer and dryer. the other very dark prints lost a bit of their vibrancy in the wash but it's by such a little bit that only an extremely picky and obsessive person like me would even notice.

see the photo below. when this happened to me, i notified the shop and also wrote to the manufacturer. i never have received a response from the manufacture. the shop owner, however, pulled every single bolt of every collection off the shelves in both of her shops and made the distributor take it all back. i'll bet that got their attention.

let me stress again ... it only happened to the darkest blues and the darkest reds i had purchased recently. i have bought tons of them over the years. all my other David's - including some very dark blue patriotic prints from the USA - have performed quite nicely in all respects.

when i buy fabric at walmart i am throwing my money away. would be better off spending it on a lottery ticket or giving the money to the indians at the casino. i was not unhappy when our walmart closed up their fabric section, except for the fact the new joannes bought all of the left over $1 a yard crap. raised the price to $8.95 a yard and put it on their shelves. at least when it was at walmart you knew you were spending your hard earned $$ on $1 a yard stuff.. at joannes they put crap out and put ridiculous prices on it like that will improve the poor quality. a few years ago the walmart had sort of decent fabric, they have sure gone down hill

that comment is insulting to all who are happy to buy wally fabs. it is vicious, slanderous, possibly libelous, unfounded, and contributes nothing useful to this specific conversation.

this conversation is for people who do buy fabrics from walmart. all those who have an irrational hatred of walmart fabrics are asked to please move along without comment.

Having been to Cranston Print Works in Webster, Mass for a tour of their facility a few times, I tend to look for VIP fabrics when I go to WalMart. I haven't bought fabric there in a while because I have plenty at home, but when I did go, VIP was the line I looked for the most. WM has had some really nice fabrics in the past. For now, my local WM still has the fabric dept, but I'm sure that will change some day.

Our Walmart has the new fabric layout. with all the precut fabric.
I bought some fall fatquarters yesterday from VIP.
they are coordinated by line and even the paisley is pretty....and I usually not crazy about paisley.
The colors and prints are just beautiful, I love them. :P

I agree with everyone else, I buy what I like. If I am drawn to the colors and prints, I take a closer look at the fabric. If I like how it feels, drapes, etc and it is not too thin, I will buy it. I have bought very nice pieces at Walmart for not much money and I have bought Moda fabric at the LQS that was just horrid and thin.

There can be a lot of variation, even with the "better" brands.

There will be 600 Walmarts nationwide that will still carry fabric. When I went to Marshall Dry Goods that's what the owner told me.

I like the VIP and Fabric Traditions the most.

I like WalMart fabric. I go for the feel. If it is soft I buy it. Rough, I pass on it. Same as the other regular fabric stores. They have rough fabric to.
