Default When you FMQ quilt on a domestic machine,

Do you ever turn the sewing machine 90 degrees, so that the needle is pointing towards you?

If you are quilting a pattern across the quilt width it really helps to turn the machine. The bulk of the unquilted part can move left to right through the harp supported by the table.

Thank you! I don't know why I've never tried this.

Great idea. I don't know why I never thought of this, but I'm going to try it.

I don't because my machine sits down in a cabinet with an insert to make it flat..

I have a Flynn quilting frame for use in FMQ and the directions specify turning the machine. Works great -- though I have yet to perfect my stitch. I'm sure that's the fault of the operator (me) and not of the orientation of the machine.

I've seen it done this way and have been anxious to try. Should get my new(to me) machine any day and will try with it since it has needle down.
