I use my Kitchen Counter for cutting, and for squaring up, or trimming, I use an adjustable table, and my desk chair, just the right height for sitting . I do my blocks a little oversized and then square them up, it takes more time, but I like the outcome. The secret to cutting sitting, is the height of your chair.

I use an old ping pont table in the basement. I have a cutting mat that covers the whole width of the table on one end. I also have smaller mats for the other end for trimming small pieces.

I have my mat fastened to a board my husband cut for me, to fit the mat. Put it on my adjustable height ironing board for the right height as I have a lousy back. It works well for me.

I do most of my cutting on the kitchen counter where I have a 9 ft. pennisula. The problem is that I'm short and it gets uncomfortable. Any cutting I have to do after the main pieces are cut, I transfer over to the dining room table. I can leave things set up there to come back and trim or square off blocks. It is easier on my back also.

I use my kitchen island. Perfect height, width, and length. My sewing room is adjacent to the kitchen, so it works well for me and frees up space in my sewing room.

Hi Lynnie in Australia! I'm Lynn in VT - USA, and I also use the kitchen counter. We renovated our kitchen 10 years ago and I designed in a double-width peninsula counter at 36" high that just fits large cutting mat. Son-in-law builder wanted to put a post in the middle of it to support upper cabinets, but I insisted it had to be entirely open. He used extra strong install to hold cupboards to the wall and soffit instead. I love my setup, though have to do a cleanup when I go to use it. Sometimes when laying out the "sandwich" I go to local quilt shop where they let me use their big tables. So nice to have shop just a mile away that fills all my quilty needs!

I do mine on a table I use for my machine. It is 6' long and 30" wide. It is a folding table and I finished a 1/2 inch shelving board to put on it to take out the vibration. This I learned from this QB. It works for me. Or I can use my breakfast bar also.
