Where to Find a Simple, Cheap, Heavy Iron?
#1
I have a cute little portable Rowenta for traveling, but Mom's old clunker finally gave up the ghost and started leaking like mad. I want something with some heft for my everyday quilt ironing and I don't want to make an investment. They all die eventually, right?
I'm looking for a cheap, heavy steam iron. Any suggestions on where I should look (offline preferably)?
Thanks!

Black and Decker makes a "retro" iron that is just like irons from the 60's. I have had lots of different irons, teflon, light, but I love the weight and heft of the old fashioned retro ones. I bought it at Target or Walmart several years ago and it still works. I believe they still have it.

I'm thinking of ordering one from Home Depot. On line they have a B&D dry iron. I don't use the steam and get tired of the starch getting stuck in all those little holes. If I need a little water I keep a spray bottle on my table.

If you order on-line, check the weight for shipping. Best bet is to go to the stores and pick the iron up and try it. Then you can go on-line and see if you can find a better price, including shipping, for that model. Check a few yard sales, you might get lucky.
