Hello,
I need some ideas from you great quilters out there.
I'm going to start this quilt (see web address below). I'm going to use 1930's reproduction fabrics, what should I use for the contrast......white, small scale print white, off white or some sort of tan color?

If memory serves me correctly and I am nearing middle age now, 1930's fabric colors tend to be on the muted side. So, I would go for the off-white to stay with the muted theme. The white may be too birght for the muted colors and the tan may not provide enough contrast. Just my 2 cents.

When I work with those fabrics, I always use a good quality muslin.

I've seen these fabrics used with bright white and the fabrics sparkled. A quality bleached muslin would be a good choice.

Off white sounds good to me.

The first thing I would do is "audition" the fabrics against both the white and off white. If they tend to be muted, then I would vote for the off white. If they are more on the bright side, the white would be acceptable, but I might still lean towards the off white, only because it is 30s repros.

I always audition the fabric together to see if they play nicely.

I believe the light background in the 30's is an off white. I would match my fabric to that. The ones I've seen have been plain muslin.
