I use my walking foot for everything I can. I like the top and bottom fabric being pulled evenly. I now have the Horizon which has the built in foot. Now I can use my 1/4" foot with it. On my older Janome I had to change feet. I chose to leave the walking foot on and forgo the 1/4" foot.

I always use my walking foot when machine quilting, even small quilts, and for adding bindings to quilts. I've marked the walking foot so that I can get an accurate 1/4" seam. I think that it helps keep the puckering at bay and makes for a better quilt. I just get better results with the walking foot.

I use the walking foot to put on the binding I just move the needle over so my seam is a quarter inch. I wouldn't even try to put binding on without ehe walking foot. I use for SITD also. I like for paralle quilting.
