Harriet Hargrave is my guru. I was fortunate to take a class with her last spring at the NC Quilt Symposium and am on the lookout for when I can do it again. I would love to do one of her Boot Camps at her store, but travel/hotel expenses on top of the fee are prohibitive for me right now.
Our guild also brings in well-known quilters to speak and teach. I took a class from Deb Karasik last month (she is a hoot and a great teacher) to learn foundation paper piecing. I am signed up for one with Bonnie Hunter in June. I've also taken raw edge applique from Aniko Feher, straight line quilting/design from Melody Crust and thread work/fabric painting from Sarah Ann Smith through the guild. The other course I took at symposium last year was from Sandy Fitzpatrick - a free motion quilting class. And I took a class from Annette Ornelas last year at our LQS - a pseudo-curved piecing technique.
There are so many cool styles and techniques to learn - and I find that I can learn at least one thing from each teacher/class I've taken. But I still return to my Harriet Hargrave books as my go-to.
Cheers, K

Alex Anderson.....I evolved my quilting watching her on TV. Her Simply Quilts program showcased so many different techniques and teachers. I also read an column that she wrote in a quilting magazine in which she said "if you have a passion for something, make room in your house for it". It helped me to decide to move the bed out of a guest bedroom and make it my quilt studio.

I have taken classes for over 15 years, if a quilter I admire was having a class within a days's drive I was there. I also took many classes at Paducah quilt show, Houston, and Nashville. Most have been worth every minute. I don't have a favorite quilt designer or teacher but I will go to every one of Eleanor Burns and Debbie Maddy's classes before any other. Nova Montgomery has the best quilt lecture I've been to.

I have lots between QB and You Tube. I always loved seeing Billy Lauder on Simply Quilts and love all the videos she has on You Tube. I adored Mary Ellen Hopkins after meeting her. She was so entertaining and brought some fabulous quilts to show.
I also find Jan in Va. on this board very, informative and helpful (Thanks Jan)
