Why are charm packs cut this way?

I saw a tute on Missouri Star website and Jenny showed that if you have 2 cuts and only one is pinked to put the straight cut over it while you sew it so you know they are lined up.
I love her tutes. She reminds me of the Betty Crocker of sewing :)
