Why do so many people buy so many fat quarters?

I also buy fat quarters to use as "zingers", something for added interest or to get your attention. I LOVE fabrics with metallic gold trim, sparkly stuff, wild prints, crazy color combinations, etc, that you would only want a little bit of in your quilt.

As others have commented you can use several shades of a color and not have to buy whole yards of each. They are good for my cloth dolls and totes, too.

I use FQ's for foundation piecing. When making a pillow cover they are just the right amount to use for the paper pieced portion of the pillow. That way I don't have a lot of material left over that I might never get around to using for anything else.

I buy fat quarters for alot of reasons listed here. Its easier to get alot of different styles within a color range so that scrappy quilts have even more personality. I also like them because you can do applique or paper piecing and not mess up yardage for a small piece. I also have several patterns from magazines and books that use only fat quarters for various quilts. Sometimes you just love a fabric but you can't find it on the bolt so you just take a taste of it for your stash.
