Same here, plus my cat helps me sew, I don't want her hair on it, and the slight shrinkage does hide any mistakes or uneven stitches in the quilting.

I never wash my quilts before giving away or selling, especially selling. People will not buy a quilt that is washed because it looks used.

Absolutely! And I had 2 blocks fall apart in the quilt I finished the other day so could replace them (take the quilting out, take out the block, replace and requilt) before giving it as a gift. It would have been really embarassing had I given it first.

If the quilting doesn't hide the mistakes, the washing will help, lol.
    LOL! Now that is funny

I loved your comment personally and don't feel the need to wash a quilt when I have finished but everyone is different and do things as they feel pleased and comfortable. Many a sewing night has been spent with a glass of wine and maybe a little chocolate florentine over here! The beauty in that is the friendships which bind and I should never like to wash that out of any quilt. When I feel it needs refreshing, I hand wash and add a linen linen spray just before it is completely dry. That hopefully seals in the friendship !!! Therese

I only wash baby quilts and flannel quilts. I do not use any glue or starch on my quilts.

I wash all my fabric prior to cutting and I've never washed a quilt before gifting it...except once when the markings I made for the quilting didn't come out with water and a sponge. I like the new look and feel too...guess if there is a problem, they'll give it back!!!

I really haven't thought about washing finished quilts. If I worked on a quilt for a long time, then I might wash it. But, sometimes I wash baby quilts so they are clean.
I recently make some baby quilts and used spray basting, so I washed those before giving them away. I always wash fabric when I bring it home, but not usually the finished quilt. If I do wash, I only use cold water.
