I have a quilt that I need to finish & need to double-check about the washing bit also.
I use warm water for most of them, but if I ever feel I need to use cold water, I am especially careful to make sure the owner of the quilt knows this. I always include washing instructions with my quilts. ;-)

I wash in warm on regular cycle if it is a gift. I figure the person getting the quilt will wash it as normal and not take special pains with it. I never give hand quilted or hand appliqued quilts to anyone but my DDs. The rest are machined pieced and quilted and will hold up to regular use.

I wash in warm. But before I wash, I soak it in cold water with no soap to remove the blue wash-out marker. If you wash that stuff with detergent, it might remain as a brown mark. Don't want that to happen!

And to keep fancy quilting from just blending into the crinkles, I echo quilt around them. They really show that way!

I use alot of starch and the fabric is stiff, plus the batting makes the quilt heavy. I wash it and it becomes soft and light weight. I love the feel of pulling the quilt out of the drier, its still warm and cuddly feeling! lol I have a bad habbit of just throwing a quilt in the drier with a wet towel to get that feeling every now and then between washes!

If I use a marker on the quilt then this is what I do also. If not I just wash in hot and dry with hot!

A quilter who entered contests and such once told me to do it in cold water (less shrinkage and if there's a chance that your fabrics had a little extra dye in them after prewashing, they're going to bleed in warm water). Also, I only ever tumble dry on no heat when they're in the dryer...still prefer to line dry them, though. My quilts are for loving, not competing, and I like the smell of line dried quilts. :D

Great idea! I'm doing a quilt now with fancier stitches and was worried about the stitches being hidden. I'll definitely mark this on my whiteboard to remember!

Also to remove any markings I may have used. Would never think to give anything that may have a smudge of any kind on it. I usually wash clothes before I donate them or through them away. Just me.

I wash quilts that I am giving away. If it's going to get wrecked in the washer, I want it to be in my washer. I don't immediately wash quilts that I am keeping. I use them for a few months and then wash them.
