I normally buy by the yard or more too and I doubt I'll be buying many pre-cuts after my left purchase. The 5" squares were more like 5 x 4.75 so couldn't use most of them for the project I bought them for. Had to use some of my stash instead. Anyway, sometimes I will buy fat quarters for a project I know I'll never use the fabric again for anything else. Plus I find the price of fat quarters to be way too high when I can buy a whole yard for not much more at times.

I love fat quarters because I love scrappy quilts. I can cut the FQs into a thousand pieces and they make my quilts look great. Also for me, I love many fabrics but know I can't buy them all.

My stash is at least 80% fat quarters. I love scrappy quilts! One fat quarter can make an appearance in several projects. Here is my latest project in progress. There are at least 50 different fabrics in these blocks.

Me too. Sometimes I need just a pop of some color I normally don't buy, or buying a bundle of FQs gives me the entire line which coordinates well and gives me the controlled scrappy I like.

Oh, I thought that is what stretchers and frames are for

This is my problem now. I have some I ordered last year and they are so beautiful I just want to look at it. Every time I think I have found a pattern and start to cut I just can't do it. How sad am I?

I don't buy fat quarters often, unless it's for applique, then I can get more out of a fat quarter than a quarter yard. That's probably why I have the fabric stash I have, or rather had. When we had to leave our home of 33 years to move to a 2 bedroom apt., I had to purge nearly half my stash, and I was heartbroken. I did know I was giving my fabric a good home when I gave it to my best friend, who took what she could use, then donated the remainder to a wonderful organization "Caring Covers" who made quilts for sick children in local hospitals; and they were happy to get the donation. You're not pathetic about wanting to keep your quilts, they are your creations, made with love.

I never buy fat quarters. I almost always buy 4 - 6 yards and have lots and lots of stacks of these.
I plan to donate many quilts ( about lap covers or smaller square quilts) to our local food pantry for Christmas.
When I pass to the big quilting room in the sky, my Daughter and Oldest Granddaughter will give my stuff away.
I won't give away any fabric before then.
I'm so sorry you have to give away some of your stuff.

I usually buy 1/2 yards. I never seem to be able to get fat quarters to work out for me.
