At the Joanns' here they have ladies who measure the material, I have never see a "young" girl in that department. However they could improve the business by being more pleasant to the customers, sometimes they will call across the store, be with you in a minute! What are they doing over there if they are suppose to be checking the people out that are in line waiting?? Glenda in Tx.

Now don't shoot me for saying this:shock: , but my experience has been just the opposite. I get Joanns circulars with the coupons and sometimes get extras online. I don't usually buy fabric, but notions, books, tools, etc. The folks at our Joanns are wonderful...helpful, always interested in your current project, even the 2 gentlemen. We joke that it is part of our weekly grocery shopping excursion, cause most weeks we stop in. Hubby likes to check out the damaged and clearance items (got a $100 cutting table for $25, a sewing machine rolling case for $8 and an Ott light for $10). I don't always buy anything, usually only if I have a coupon, but sometimes they have their better material for 50% additional of the 50% stuff (once it was additional 75%). The girls have gotten to know us, always welcome us. They just hired a young girl who says she is having a great time and learning so much. She is always very helpful because if she doesn't know the answer, she finds it out. This Christmas season I had one of their employees greet me by name in a mall store when we were both shopping.
So, all in all, my Joann's is great! Just don't go in on your lunch hour, because it seems everyone else does and it can take a while to get your fabric cut.

Sorry so many of you have problems with your Joanns. I guess I am really lucky.
I have to agree with you. Our Joanns (the one that's left that is) is a super store and is great to deal with. I don't buy much fabric there anymore either cause we have several LQS nearby. Our cashiers do their best to utilize all my coupons to the fullest and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Wish all of you could have such a great store.

Does anyone have some good web sites to purchase quality fabrics from? We are very limited here in Anchorage AK. Would love to hear about where others shop at online. Thanks

I have shopped JoAnn's in more than one town and more than one state with no problems. Our new superstore is bright, clean, well stocked. And the majority of employees came from the old store. The secret to coupons-besides making sure they are not expired-is quite simple. When you have one you want to use , make sure you decide which item you want to use it on and hold that item & coupon to the last. Then tell the cashier you want to use the coupon on that particular item. As far as an inch or two or even 1/4 yard more than you want, the clerk usually will ask if you want it all. Go ahead and get it, that inch or two won't break you and many times you will be glad you have it once you start sewing. If you don't use it, put in your scrap file. Use it for quilting, give it (once you have a good stash) to an elementary school for crafts, find a quilt guild that wants it. JoAnn's coupons are quite clear on their coupon offers so read them first. But on occasion, you may get a new cashier or clerk that may need questioning about what they are doing so clarify things if you have a question before leaving the store. And remember there is always a manager available to ask for assistance. stiona

I just received an order this week from on line Fat Quarter Store.I have bought there before and each experience has been a delight. The fabric perfection, it is convenient and the customer service can not be beat. I would highly recommend it to everyone.

Try Ebay! Seriously. I have purchased some very interesting, unique and hard to find fabrics from ebay sotres or private sellers.
