If you didn't tell your grandson not to use them, I don't think you should be the least bit surprised that he did. If he doesn't know your rules for quilts, why would he not assume they could be used by his friends for sleeping?? He was being a good host and you should be proud of him for that. :D

That's too bad, but it could have been worse.

I would never make a quilt only to look at right now due to the fact that my quilt skills are very basic. Maybe someday I will make a quilt just for display. Mine are made to be loved, used and gently abused. We take my quilts in the car, camping, drive-in movies, picnics, etc. If they get dirty, I just wash them.

That being said, I do hope your quilts did not suffer any damages and your grandson will know next time.

    Nooooooo....I feel your pain.

I would be furious that someone assumed anything was free to use like that. "good host" bah! More like didn't think.

    Are they coming out ok???

Your GS should have known better than to have had parties in someone private home. He would be doing the cleaning and washing quilts.

Don't forget to ask him for a monetary deposit before you leave ... to pay for any cleanup.

    My sympathies.

You must be a wonderful GM for him to feel comfortable asking his buds over. But I would have made him wash the quilts. Ask yourself is looking the only reason we make quilts because the quilts will usually last longer than we do and we do not know what they will be used for we are gone. I have seen them under cars, etc.

I would have a very LONG talk with the house sitter and HE would have taken care of the cleaning of the quilts under strict supervision by ME. Also any other cleaning that needed after his "parties".

I think it is time to have a conversation with GS. He may not realize the value of these treasures. I am sure you can kindly explain to him the time and value of these heirlooms and he will make sure that they are respected in the future. He may also be able to inform his "buds" for not only your quilts, but others as well.
