Why sell fabric?

I think it's awesome that people with extra fabric are willing to sell it at low prices to other board members. I wish more members were willing to join in.
I give my quilts away, and I give away my non-quilting fabric. If I have fabric someone needs, I will share.
I can't imagine why anyone would want to make a judgement about whether I donate, give away or sell fabric that I am not going to use. It should be of NO concern to anyone except the buying and selling partners and the monitors to see that the rules are being followed.

I am scrolling "up", so just saw this. You express my feelings exactly.
I have been wanting to sell stuff for several months now.
So much so, that a member on another board gave me a camera.
I gifted her with some fabric.
My dilemma is between health issues and just not knowing how to
do it.
I never thought I would be "suspect".
I do have a lot from the days I was naive and felt better and thought
it was smart to be ready for retirement years.
Now I'm drowning and not as able...that's all.
I'm reading a lot of positive comments about how nice it is to get a
bargain on here.
That's all I ever thought my selling would be.
(wildyard, you and I have a very good common friend and it would
be nice to get to know you better . S. L. from Fl would want me to say hi for her.)

Mousie, I sure wish I lived close enough to help you. I suspect that one day we will all be in a similar position. Maybe you could find a local guild where someone would be willing to help you out, at least to get started?
Feel better!

I can understand selling fabric once in a while when you realize you'll never use it. But there are some who sell it monthly, that I don't understand. I wonder if the people doing this are continuing to buy more when selling old. I use mine when I'm doing a practice piece; especially for serging or emb when I'm want to make sure it turns out right before putting my favorite fabric into it. To each his own.
I haven't looked at the sales section for some time, but it seemed obvious to me back when I was looking. I didn't think it was all that cheap, for the most part. In fact, I was surprised how much many people wanted for their fabric...then QB put some limits on that too, so naive buyers weren't getting 'taken' by other 'really nice quilters' who were making a bundle off of them.
But it is kind of fun to look. Just be aware there are lots of places on the internet for $5-6/yard fabric. It's not "unusual" at all, if you have time to search for sales. thousandsofbolts.com has literally thousands all the time for about $5/yard.
But you can tell that some are just selling excess stuff....doesn't matter to me WHY anyone is selling it if I want to buy it, BTW.
