    When I make bags I usually double sew all the seams especially corners and then zig-zag the seam allowance together to avoid holes in the bag. I agree it seams(HA-HA) like a lot of work but it keeps the bag in one piece and you aren't messing with repairs.

    I would leave a 1/2" seam on a tote. Depending on the tote those seams take a lot of stress.
