One of the reasons that I quilt is because it ties me to the generations of amazing women in my family who came before me.

Sometimes it just goes that way but "giving back" is so rewarding.

I always loved looking at quilts my grandmother always had a lot of them around the house. It wasn't until I was working as a nurse and one of my friends brought it a pile of lap quilts that she was taken to the cancer patients. That's when I started looking around at taking classes but with a hectic schedule never found time to do it.

I had a major back surgery and then a stroke, this is when I found the time to quilt believe it or not. The stroke was a major scare and I decided not to put off things I wanted to do anymore because I don't know if it will happen again. I go to classes about once a month at the LQS to get out of the house for a few hours and we have a blast talking and laughing. Now I'm squirreling away fabric like a mad lady wherever I can find it, patterns too!

Sometimes when we feel burned out it helps to take a break and do something really simple. I have a lone star wall hanging "hanging around" for a year waiting for me to finish and I am just not motivated right now. I have been doing redwork embroidery (not always red thread) which for me is really relaxing and fast. I am doing towels with embroidery on them for Christmas presents. So maybe after Christmas I will be up to finishing my long star quilt.

Thanks for sharing that. There are so many posts about unappreciated gifts that I think we all need to hear stories like that one.
