Default Why you must hold onto your Bobin thread

Okay, they say a picture is worth a thousand words so here is what a nest looks like. I have been quilting for almost 30 years and this is the worst nest of bobbin thread that has ever occurred. Funny, as I had been sewing the HSTs together into rows, the Aurifil thread broke suddenly so I just re-threaded my machine. I had assume that the bobbin thread hadn't broken which unfortunately it did too. But then almost immediately, the bobbin thread ran out. Weird circumstances so I am going to look for Jack the ripper and restitch.

Pfft, I've had much worse thread nests. I have had ones that require me to detach the throat plate, remove the needle and do surgery to release the fabric.

Sorry you are dealing with this. The bobbin in my machine does not require that those tails be held when I start a new bobbin. But when I cut threads 'mid bobbin' I always hand on to my tails! Probably just a left over from early days of sewing with vintage machines but I've been fortunate that I don't normally have those issues as a result.

Thank goodness for rippers. I always have to use a leader (some call them spiders) to avoid nests at the beginning.

I hang onto the bobbin thread to prevent these pesky things!

Well yeah, thats a nasty nest. But I have to ask .....

When the nest is not bad, how many of you bother to remove it? I don't.
