    I keep my fabrics in a dresser and now will line the drawers with muslin and acid free paper. Thanks for the heads up before I ruin a lot of fabric!

    I've heard that placing fabrics directly on wood could cause fabric damage, so I would line your drawers with acid-free paper and you should be good to go.

    I have my fabric stored by color in a curio cabinet. That way I get to see what I have available. In have't put anything on the wood shelf.....yet. So far it's ok.

    YES, YES, YES!!!! The bare wood WILL color the fabric. If you want to use wooden drawers to store fabric line with paper. I use newspaper and it doesn't come off on the fabric

    neece, it's true that the ink in old newspapers has stabilized and will not rub off on fabric. However, newspapers are made from wood products and contain all the acids that wood contains. These acids, when left in contact with fabric over a long period of time, will gradually "eat" the fabric. By the time you can see the damage, it's too late.

    Options that will protect fabric are to line the wood with "acid-free" or "archival quality" paper, line the wood with plain fabric such as muslin or an old sheet, line the wood with plastic or contact paper, coat the wood with polyurethane, or encase the fabric in an old pillowcase or other fabric. All of these keep the fabric out of direct contact with untreated wood products (which includes newspaper and tissue paper).

    Acid-free or archival papers have been treated to remove the acid.
