will either of these work for a border?

If you're going to use the stripe, I'd maybe add a narrow border or piping in that medium blue that's in the stripe. Since it's a boy, you can never go wrong with blue & it would add both interest & a tie in to the stripe.

Have you reached a decision yet? I like the stripe fabric but I'd also suggest a very thin border between the stripe and the quilt. I'm thinking either blue, white or black. Do you have a small quantity of either of those in your stash?

I love the stripe fabric with it. It adds a little color which kids love. I think if you add the stripe it will look great no matter if you border it like you show in the pic or use it as binding. No need to add anything else. He will just be happy to have a quilt from you, and as an added plus it's adorable! I do really like the idea of cutting that stripe on the diagonal if you feel like going to that much trouble. Whatever you decide will be great, but yes use the stripe.

thanks everyone.. I don't have anything else in my stash that will work. (I think that means I need so go shopping )
I stopped at my LQS yesterday and she happened to have some clearance fabric... which happened to have some stripe fabric. Only $6 too.
Its not perfect, but this stripe goes much much better with the fabric I have. (the stripe that I have was from the same line as the fire truck fabric, but it didn't seem to go)
Not sure exactly how I will make the border, probably some of the red with the stripe...or maybe check out that black idea that someone mentioned.. but this stripe is the winner.
Thanks for all of your input.. helped me stick with stripes
