Winding bobbins from thread cones?
#11
I use a thread stand at the end of the machine and thread it through the thread hold on the stand and then feed through the machine in the regular way. One of my machines has a safety pin taped beside the wheel to run the thread through before filling a bobbin or sewing, I guess it adds a little tension.

I just hold the cone horizontally with my left hand - fingers wedged inside the cone holding it steady. Next the thread goes through the thread guide. I use the fingers on my right hand to gently help guide the thread and apply any needed tension.

I've had many different thread stands over the years. This is the best one I've used. It works for vertical and horizontal cones and spools. https://www.superiorthreads.com/shop...thread-holder/
I bought it at Nancy Notions several years ago. Connecting Threads use to sell beautiful metal thread stands. I received one as a gift and it is very nice but not as functional as the Superior one.

IN fact, the thinner thread for piecing is nice because it helps you keep those 1/4" seams since a thicker thread takes up a bit more space.
