I use Wonder Under on my applique. It is cheaper and I use YARDS of it. To keep the bulk down you can cut away the middle and just leave the WU around the edges. It is so light weight now that it doesn't always stick through a lot of handling so a touch of washable school glue help!

wonder under has been around forever! i think it was one of the first paper back fusables...i use it when ever i can locate it, it is not as stiff as heat n bond...even the heat n bond lite is kind of (stiff...it washes up ok) i think the wonder under is a better choice but that could be bacause it has been the one i've used most often....none of the lqs's around here carry it and our Joannes doesn't always have it. i have ordered it by the bolt in the past from joannes.com and used a 40% coupon for it.
