There was a display at our library of carved wooden spools. This site shows some neat carved spools. http://info.fabrics.net/decorative-r...wooden-spools/

Hi everyone. I have many wooden spools. When I cleaned out my mother's apartment and my aunts house, I found a lot of spools of thread that have wooden spools. I have been gradually using up the thread and now have a stach of wooden spools. Does anyone know what I can do with them. Seems a shame to throw them away.
Thanks
Rita

I will not use old thread. However, I have kept all the old spools, with the remaining thread in a couple of jars. Two spools with some thread, I dipped in polyurethane and used as "buttons" on a sewing tote I made for a friend-----------with a spool quilt block as the front pocket.

I collected them for years. The smaller ones make great knobs on sewing room furniture. I have a very large one with a gold colored thread on it that my Moma used to sew things on my Daddy's Navy uniforms, when he was in WWII and the Korean War.
