A quick question. I’ve never used spray basting product on wool batting. It worked great on cotton. 505 and hobb’s wool ...that’s what I’m thinking using(to be machine quilted). I’ve heard about poly batting and the spray and I thought I should check. Thank you :-) D

I've used 505 spray with Hobbs wool, and had no problems whatsoever.

I've not had a problem with wool batting and 505 spray. Works great.

I have a huge roll of wool/poly batting and the 505 is not very adhesive with it. I have to pin as well. I wish I'd known before purchase that it wouldn't work very well with the spray baste....never would've bought it.

I had bad luck with wool batting and 505. The batting was Hobbs, 100% wool, and it was not needle punched or anything else that held it together. The top and bottom of the batting held against the quilt top just fine, but the middle kind of squished around (hope you know what I’m talking about - I can’t think of any other way to describe it). I ended up being very frustrated. BTW, I didn’t have this big of a problem with lap quilts with wool, just bed sized quilts. The next bed quilt I did with wool (a queen size), I had a long armer friend baste it for me with water soluble threat on a 3-4” grid. Wonderful and worth every penny! I actually still have to be a bit careful in the 4” squares to keep things straight, but it is so much easier than the last big quilt I did with wool. I still use wool for my “grown up” quilts because it is so luscious. I use Warm and Natural or Warm and White for baby quilts that get washed so often.
