    Default Wool pressing mat

What is the purpose of a wool pressing mat and how is it used?

    Stabilizes the quilt block....no distortion!

absorbs the heat from the iron..steam or no steam. Set iron on Wool...not as hot as cotton. The wool will scorch if set hotter than wool setting btw.
excellent for pressing hand or machine embroidery projects.
    Seams press flat!

Bonnie Hunter loves her Alpaca pressing mat but it is pricey at about $50 .

I picked up a white felted wool fat quarter at the LQS for pressing and it works great. I heard about using wool in a workshop. What happens is when pressing off grain HST's or other seams, the fabric seam kind of buries itself into the wool and it doesn't stretch it out of shape.

I must be doing something wrong, because I don't see where my pressing is any better. Expense mistake.

I purchased a Wool Felted Mat about a month ago. Does anyone notice their wool mat having a rather 'earthy smell' like an animal?? LOL I'm seriously not kidding! Mine seems to smell more like an unwashed animal ... I do have a very sensitive sense of smell... but.....
Before I contact the website where I purchased it, I wanted to know if anyone else has noticed a rather odd smell about the wool mats or is it just my overly sensitive sense of smell?? thank you

I just ordered one after watching an Eleanor Burns You Tube and she said she loves it but, it did smell for a while. I'm hoping the odor on mine when I get it dissipates quickly.

I have two a lg n a sm. No smell with either one. Love the way my blocks look after pressing. My iron broke and I splurged on the oliso pro in yellow then I saw it was coming out in purple. I like it. A little heavy but then I had an old black n Decker for 30 yr
