Well, went ahead and ordered 2'x6' and will cut it into smaller pads. With 15% coupon, it was a bit over $38. Well worth the cost for getting multiple mats out of it, or even putting it on a Big Board. FYI - I cut down the 100% wool blanket and put it under the cover on my ironing board. Appears to work great. Pre-washed the blanket in hot water and dried in hot water also.

I have one and I like it. Mine is 12 x 18 and I think it was $48. The color is a medium gray and it's all wool.

I think that was a good idea. I hadn't found the site where you can get larger pieces to cut, so I bought a 12X18. I liked it so much I got another for when I travel. Luckily I found them both on sale., but would have saved more if I had purchased the larger piece.

I have been thinking about and wanting to buy a wool pressing mat for quite a while, but just refuse to pay the price. I have a 100% wool throw that was included in the bonus "roadside emergency package" when my daughter bought her first car. It's quite thin around the edges, but is 64"x100". I folded it twice and have had it on my ironing board for about 2 weeks. It's working nice, so I think I'll try felting it in the washer & just see what happens.

Anything quilt related under $50 is pretty basic normal prices. I don't understand refusing to buy something I can afford and want.

I received one as a Christmas gift, after putting it in my wish list. It's awesome!! I love it! I'm working on a quilt with LOTS of small pieced blocks and they press flat using it.

I've read through the discussions on these mats - thanks for all the info

I was wondering if I had a wool pressing mat if it would to help flatten/ dry press the bulky seams when paper piecing? Anyone use it for this purpose and have good results?

I just read about a cheaper alternative for a wool pressing mat. A horse saddle pad. It was described on Amazon as a mustang square wool pad liner and it comes in a thirty inch by thirty inch size.

They have all types of material.. but, I chose the 100% wool, called Nature's Cushion. It may not be as thick as the 1/2" size, but it works just the same. For about 18.00. If you want it thicker, you could probably sew two pieces together. Works great!
Thanks to psdumas I also bought from tis company. They have a 15% off right now. Free shipping. You can select different sizes so I went with the largest I could get being offered at the lowest price and cut it in two pieces. It was like 24 by 3 ft or something like that. It is a fraction of the cost from quilt shops. Works great but I don't know that it's better than toilet paper. Those old Sears catalogues were pretty bad. .
