I've used wool blankets I purchased at estate sales for pressing. I really liked them. I"m thinking of cutting one to fit under my ironing board cover. I think it does wick the moisture away quickly when you are using steam.

I have the roll, ham, and pad I believe made by Dritz but not sure. I've had them for years because I sewed for my 3 girls. When you have stubborn pieces that just don't want to behave as they should they are a blessing. Consider going to a thrift store for a 100% wool item that you can cut a good sized piece from and felt it.

Until now, I had never heard of a wool pressing board, but now that I've read through the replies, I think I'm going to go looking for that Army blanket that I picked up at a yard sale for free, and use it on my ironing board. Thanks for bringing up this topic. I hope you have success in finding. I picked up a LOT of wool clothing at our local Humane Society thrift store about 4 years ago, for a $1 each.

I use a white wool felt fat quarter purchased from LQS. It is in the hand dyed wool section. Works great! Just don't use the cheap felt at the dollar stores. They have strange fibers in them.

I said to myself, "what the hay??" on those pressing mat prices! So... I found a great site (EcoRugPads.com)that cuts a 3/4" thick pure wool felted pieces any size you request, and ships for free, and quick. They have all types of material.. but, I chose the 100% wool, called Nature's Cushion. It may not be as thick as the 1/2" size, but it works just the same. For about 18.00. If you want it thicker, you could probably sew two pieces together. Works great!

Thank you for the link to ecorugpads.com.
I just ordered an 18" x 24" piece and, with the current 15% discount, it was only $17.81 And Free Shipping. What a bargain, can't wait to tell my guild.

On quilt in a day current videos on YouTube, Eleanor burns is using these ironing mats, and of course offering for sale at her store, don't know what price, never really looked into it.

I just ordered 2 of the 3/8" thick size 18"-24". They were only $20.45 each!
    What a savings.
