Its made out of a piece of fleece I bought back in the cloth diaper research phase of my life. Quilting is more fun, research done, lol. I think its probably pretty expensive to be using for a design wall, and there's a big chunk cut out of the bottom, but stuff sticks to it as if by magic! I'm going to have to experiment with some cheap fleece from wally world to see if Malden Mills is really magic, or if any old stuff will work. Even a couple of pieces deep they still stick. I read y'alls' posts saying you used the back of a flannel backed tablecloth and thought you were blowin' smoke, but now I *believe* sisters!!!

Missouri Star had a Daily Deal yesterday or the day before for one so I bought it. I should have gotten one a long time ago.

I just took some foam board and covered it with flannel for a design wall but I don't have much space to store it so I have to always bring it out from behind the dresser if I want to use it but it is nice to visually see how the quilt will look after I have all of the blocks done.

I changed my design wall after being at a guild member's house and she had one covered with lofty poly batting. What a difference. She could put up a finished quilt top and it stayed put. The new design walls you can buy are treated with a light adhesive to hold the fabric. They are great to to take to a retreat.

My design walls are all from fleece.
Yes walls! Many of them, from 10ftx7-1/2ft down to 12"square.

I tried different types of coverings in my experimental phase
and the fleece won out as being the best, for me!

Just put the block or fabric on and swipe with my hand or arm and it sticks. No pins!
I've even hung fully assembled quilts ........ with no pins!

Just can't imagine quilting now without my design walls.
And wonder in amazement, as to how I did it before?

I have one, no room in my quilting room to hang it so it’s hung up in my room. I need to get moving on the project on there though as I keep getting distracted by other things!

I have a 12' x 16' blank wall in my new sewing room. DH will make me a frame to put three 8' x 4' covered foam insulation boards on the wall. Only downside is no windows on that wall but perfect for the design wall. DH will install a length of bar lighting across the top.
