Default Would love to play with this FQ-4 machine!!

I know how some of you feel about Singer sewing machines, and you are probably right about it.. but, HSN says this is a new arrival. Yes, made in China...The price is right for all that it offers. Would love the larger & smaller emb. hoops..would use the serger probably, as I can't thread what I have. I have a much loved Janome Embroidery only machine, that's over twice the price of this Singer... plus another Janome DC.. a cheaper model..still a super machine..
Just wondered if anyone on here has seen this and know anything about it..I will be looking for reviews online...

They are not right about their negativity. I have 3 new Singers -- Futura CE 250, SES 2000, Quantum L-500 and NEVER have had any problem with any of them. As long as you keep them clean and oiled they work fine! I think a lot of people parrot what they hear and haven't actually tried one. You should get info from folks that actually have that particular machine, sadly I don't have that one so I can't give an opinion but I would have bought that one just for the larger hoop if I hadn't just bought a new machine (dang it!)

Thanks Bernie, for a positive reply... I'm also a berni...lower case, and no 'e'...You definetly know your Singers, with all that you have! I read some reviews. Most were 5 stars, and 3, if I recall, were 1 or 2 stars..I guess it depends a lot on the people that operate these beasts, and of course, there could be a lemon in any machine, no matter how expensive, or cheap...as we know from our vehicles..
Yes, the larger hoop caught my eye also. I'm loving this embroidery stuff...One 'lower star review', said the hoop was too flimsy to hold the fabric tight...Sooo, that might be something a person should see in person...thanks berni

I have a Singer Futura 500 xl, this is a wonderful machine, the only comment I would make if you decide to purchase this, be sure to read all the instructions carefully and be sure to keep your machine clean and oiled. I love Singer machines, have thier serger also and a very old (40) straight stitch machine I have used for years with no problems. If you take care of your sewing machines they will take care of you! As to the hoops they are not heavy duty, but quite sturdy. My machine came with the 10.5 H x6. w and a 4 x 4. Ihave used both of these hoops alot and have not had a problem with them.

Thanks Maggie! This FQ-4 has the same size hoops..which is nice, and what I'd like to have. I just read the reviews on PatternReviews', the more I read, I see I would have to have a laptop, or place this machine right next to my desktop to transfer patterns via USB cable for Emb. With my Janome 300E, I transfer via flash card..Works great..as machines in separate rooms...The J 350E was "upgraded" that way as well..I prefer this card system, but what the heck, I can buy a cheapo laptop to do the job. It would certainly be a clearer picture of design..I think I'll look into the 500 xl as well. See what that offers...thanks berni

I have the Singer Futura CE-200 and have had her for several years. She's a good machine, no problems with her and I love the embroidery she can do. I have also digitized several designs and been happy with those results. I too, have several Singers (my Futie, a Singer Quilter's Confidence, several 128's, a 99, a FW, a 301...well, you get the idea.) I also have a Janome 6600P and a Bernina 1080 and a Gammill long-arm...so I am "well-machined" and a well-rounded quilter! Not bragging, just love my machines! (PS...at this point, I'm trying NOT to look at any new machines! I already need a bigger house!)

I have an older model Singer Quantum, sews perfectly and I've never had a problem with it. All metal gears inside, I took the housing off and looked (after the warranty ran out.) The computer part is sealed. I bought it from HSN years ago. The machine repairman who sold Singers said he couldn't sell the model I have as it was made especially for a big sale. The model Quantum he had didn't have several of the features mine did and certainly didn't come with lots of extra accessories. And his had the synthetic made gears!

HI Momto5..I'm amazed at all the machines some on the board have...Been reading up on some of the well healed new Singers..Just seems the more there is to them..digitizing , etc., the more to go wrong with them..Much like our fancy new cars.. Sure sound like fun though! berni

OMGosh....Just read the reviews of the FQ-4 on the HSN site!! I'm surprised they allow them up there..Some say it's awful, with the embroidering. Others give it a 1 star, and sending it back...Good Grief!... There are a couple of 5 stars..So ..what gives? Is it a lemon or a great machine? Sure makes a gal dubious about ordering ..berni
