I used my 99 to teach my daughters now 47 and 46. It is a great machine to teach beginners.

I'd go check it out, at least. The machine is worth it. They are very good machines. And who knows, the table may be something that was built specifically for the machine.

Yes, a 1935 model would be a nice addition for you. It is probably quite a workhorse, just needing some cleaning, servicing and maybe new wiring.

Since we deal in vintage machines I'd buy with the right price. It looks a bit rough and will take some care. Before buying run the machine with the handwheel disengaged and engaged to check for drag on the motor or weak motor. See what they can do about the price being you will have to do the work. Use a mild degreaser soap on the decals to keep from destroying them Clean and oil before soing any real sewing

It's going to need servicing and cleaning; looks like it hasn't been used in years. If you can get it for $25-50, it's a good deal. The 99s are great machines, last forever, and you can still get parts for them. This is one I'd buy, and I'd negotiate a better deal.

Wondering where you got the plexi-glass piece that is on there. I would love to have something like that for my daughter.

check to see if the foot pedal is with it. machine will need a complete rewiring (do you have someone to do it ?). that domed case in the background goes with it. ask the condition of that also. key? there should be a heavy metal knee lever with it. It is a 3/4 size Singer, 221 is 1/2 size.
are there any bobbins? book ? $65 is too much for the shape it is in. will probably need a new belt. $$$ to fix it up. and that is OK if you get it for $25-40.

If you're going to see it, take along some thread and pieces of fabric to try it. Do some negotiating if you decide to get it. The seller might come down.

In my haste to get to one our kids concerts I failed to answer part of the question. The 99 is not a featherweight. It is a scaled down version of the very popular 66 ( notice the numbers are inverted) It is not as heavy as many made in it's time and is a nice machine with more portability then many heavier models.

I think I'd wait as well for a better deal or different vintage singer. The 99 is a good machine, but the price can be improved on since you need to do the p/u and clean up on this one. You would have to pay 30-40 dollars for shipping if you bought it afar but it is not unheard of to find them in 2nd hand stores, yard sales or even thru freecycle.org for 25.00 or less. .....Good Luck, whatever you decide.
