Wow! What a shocker: maintenance
#22
I paid $124. for service on my Pfaff last December. I was in shock. I know what you mean when you say I am glad that I had the money to pay. I have 3 Shih-tzus going to the vet for check-up and shots and will need to get heartworm med and flea med...I am expecting a bill of at least $300. Thank God that I will be able to pay it, as long as nothing goes haywire before that.

Took my machine in and he did not tell me he couldn't fix a problem I had told him about. (rewiring the light on my Featherweight) Just charged me for the cleaning. Later found out that the shop had changed hands, so at this point I don't have a shop I can take my machines to. I wouldn't mind driving a little way if I know I could get good service. Anyone around OKC recommend anyone?

Ladies OIL YOUR MACHINES! Had mine with a problem and oil cured it. Friends machine froze.
Oiled it...let it sit wiggled the wheel...oiled it again. Armed with oil, Qtips and paper towel I took it apart (bobbin and bottom). De fuzzed and oiled anything that moved...NO WIRES!......put it back together and she purrs like a kitten.
If your machine is broke and it may cost you$$$ take it apart.. after all it is already broke.
You might save some $$$$.

The dealer should always tell you ahead of time what the cost is....obviously he did not. What a shock.
I am like so many of this board.....care for my machine myself...it they need parts or malfunction, then they go in.
Maintenance is done by me....never had a problem and never have taken any of my machines in for malfunctioning.
The malfunction is usually my error...or thread out of the take up lever.

I was told by the dealer of my Janome 6600 that the machines should be serviced very 5 years!!!! (As long as I keep it cleaned out in the bobbin area and oil the little wick) I just had this done in January, after four years because we were going to be in the area and it is 3 hours from home cost was $50 because I bought it from her.
I called her this week because the machine was jamming up, (MY FAULT after all) and the first thing she said was that there would be no service charge because I just had it serviced!!! SHE is a good dealer (Waddington Sewing Center, Waddington NY) She also met the lowest price I had found in NY. I love my Janome.

Yahoo Groups they have very active groups for every make and model of sewing machine it seems. Someone led me to the Viking Group for my make and model. Since my machine is in the 20 year range of age I was amazed how active and more importantly how helpful the group is.
Should you have the Viking 1+ send a PM to me and I will give you a link to the group. Otherwise I'd just search Yahoo Groups for your make and model of sewing machine and they may have a group going. If not I'm sure there are other sites if you do a Google search too.
