Yellowing and older quilts
I have an old quilt that I'm trying to finish (over 60 years) and the blocks are yellow looking. What products are available and recommended for trying to take the yellow look away? Thanks.

You might want to find a quilt soap and soak the quilt overnight when it is finished. Older quilts shouldn't be washed in agitation. I have a few brown spots on the muslin of the first quilt I ever made and haven't found anything that will remove them. THANKS for posting this. Will be watching for replies.

I have restored yucky, stained yellowed, nasty quilt tops by soaking them in the bathtub with retroclean. Some have been so bad that the water was yellow in a few hours,so I drained it and repeated with clean water. Some take 4 or 5 days. It's great stuff, and has saved quilts sewn in the 20's. ( good thing I had a separate shower!)

after you are done............use Oxy-clean or a similar product. May take several soakings (not washings) but most of the yellow will come out. And the quilt will smell fresh, again, too.
