Yesterday, I had my cute baby quilt all safety pinned ready for quilting. I noticed a little raised area and thought I'd better give it a little press to prevent a problem with machine quilting. Well, by the time I had the iron over to the area, I must have bumped the switch over to "hotter than Hades" because I scorched one block. Today I unpinned the quilt, removed the block, made a new block, sewed it back in the quilt and repinned. I am now back to where I started yesterday, sigh, ready to machine quilt.

I was told to use peroxide on scortch marks and they do come out!! Hope you don't have a next time but if you do try this.

Oh no! I'm sorry for your ironing tragedy. Good for you for all the extra work you did to get the quilt back ready to machine quilt. We'll be waiting to see your final outsome. Please keep us updated with pictures. Good luck with your quilting.

Tartan; A tip I learned from heirloom sewing that I have found very useful is: Soak the affected area in a bowl of water and add in a couple of denture tablets. Let it soak for several hours or overnite and voila` the scorched area is magically gone!

Now, since heirloom sewing involves alot of starching it may be the starch doesn't let the scorch marks go too deep which may be why soaking with denture tabs works so well. I haven't used it on a plain fabric scorch but it might be worth trying next time.

Thanks for all the tips. I will try some of them if it happens again. I have to get a new camera and figure out how to post before I can show it completed. It turned out cute.
