I would be interested to hear the answer for this also.

    If it's this one: http://www.shiboridragon.com/Patterns/StripSearch.jpg

Then my best guestimate is as follows: Blocks appear to be 15" or 16" square. One strip set (five 2"xWOF strips) would appear to be able to make two blocks. So, figure out how many blocks you have in the size quilt you're planning and then buy strips accordingly. A jelly roll (42 strips) would probably make 16 blocks or a 60" x 60" quilt. A queen size (100x100) would probably require 3 jelly rolls.

A yard=36 inches. Divide that by width of strip, in this case 2.5 inches. Result is 14.4 strips. I always allow extra fabric to allow for the fact that the fabric will not be straight when I buy it, and I could make an error in cutting. For those that prewash, allow for shrinking.

    Does that help?

I go to Quilter's Cache for patterns all the time and that's what they do. What I do is take each piece of the pattern listed, multiply that by the number of blocks I'm planning to make, and figure out how many I can get per strip of fabric "x" inches by WOF.

Hi, Missy! I went online and searched under "quilt pattern/Strip Search" and found two sources:

G E Design Iceland, pattern by Gudrun Eria at www.trinityquilts.com and,

    www.nancysnotions.com/products/clearance/patterns

Good luck and I know your frustration about yardage! My quilt shops here in AZ are always ready to help you measure - lucky me!

I totally agree, I think they could increase their sales if you could order the fabric and pattern at the same time and it would save us shipping fees.
