I guess my quilts are different, I always pre-wash, and my quilts always have a crinkly look, but of course, I am a hand quilter.

I also love the crinkly look in my quilts. I like the old and loved look that it gives to a quilt.

I love both. Each has it's own special place in the quilting world!

I prewash all my fabrics and wash and dry all my quilts as soon as the binding is on. They turn out crinkly but, the ones I use on my bed lays lay after a day or so. All of them crinkle a bit when washed and dried. Best way to get them flat is to do straight quilting. As with all aspects of quilting - different strokes for different folks. Not just one way to do anything.

I would like to see the heavily quilted quilts after they have been washed and dried.

Flat girl turned crinkly because everyone just loved the crinkly feel and you know what? They are right. It feels so good.It is fine with me if you like flat and un-crinkly too.

I agree that it depends on the quilt. I love the look of a "well loved" quilt, but wall hangings and items I do for others, they are "flat", as in not being washed. I prewash my fabrics and if I want that loved look...I add a layer of Warm and White cotton/poly batting...it shrinks just enough to give that "well loved" look.

    I will answer first -

I positively, absolutely, final answer - prefer 'the flat look' -

If you want to add 'why' you prefer one look or the other - - -

I prefer 'flat' because that implies that everything has been shrunk before cutting - and the finished item will still be the approximately the same shape and size that it was before it's washed again.

I love a soft crinkled quilt to wrap up in. Which is the main reason I make quilts.
