    lightweight, single sided flannel (prewashed of course) works well when you just need a light layer. and you can quilt as far apart as you want...no migrating!

    I agree.....I only use Quilter's Dream and it comes in all sorts of lofts for particular needs. There is no scrim in their cotton. They do have poly mixes for those who like that and a fabulous wool. I just don't even bother with anything other than Quilter's Dream.

    I use hobbs 80/20 and really like it. Hobby Lobby store have queen size for $16.99 but with a 40% off coupon it is about $10.

    I really like the idea of using flannel - I bet that is easy to quilt and wears really well!! Hmm...if you need it light how bout just using it for both the batting and backing? I did that with Fleece and it came out wonderful.
