I know the moment I get my machine I'll want to make something. I'm taking a beginner quilting class next month but might not be able to hold out. Even if I can wait until the class, I think that I'll need idea of what to make after the class project.

What are your favorite beginner quilting books and patterns?

One of my favorite beginner patterns that I teach people to quilt with is called Yellow Brick Road. Turning Twenty patterns are another pretty easy pattern. A lot of folks around here like to make what is called a disappearing 9 patch or just a 9 patch quilt. A rail fence quilt would be good.
Another easy option would be to do a quilt with 4 patches alternating with a single patch the same size as the 4 patch.
there are so many options. I hope you have fun!!!

Welcome, you've come to the right place for help! I'm still a beginner myself (quilting for a year now) and one of the easiest quilt patterns that I use is the toss nine pattern. It is easy to do and its very flexable on how you can lay it out to change the pattern. I'm helping my wife get ready to teach a quilting class at our church and we will be using the toss nine to teach with. Have fun and good luck!

I call it a toss nine. The proper name is disappearing 9 patch and you can find the directions all over the place on the forum and net.

    Here's one I made for a hospice.

i like the 9 patch pizzazz quilt for beginners - its a book you can buy.

for a beginner quilting book i like Better Homes and Garden Complete Book of Quilting.

it covers all aspects of quilting and shows you "how to" with many pictures.

it is the only quilt book i have that i would never part with.

I really like rail fence for beginners. It looks more complicated than it is, but teaches basic skills such as strip piecing.
