Your favorite D9P variation?

My favorite is the scrappy Tossed D9P. After cutting your 9P into quarters, you toss all the pieces together and randomly grab out 4 to sew together. For continuity I made all the center squares the same. This quilt I made for my DGS, he requested green, gray and black. Here is a photo of one I did, I called this one Seasonal Greens;

When you make a D9P, there are 9 patches; the center one is cut into 4 pieces, the top middle and side middle ones are cut in half and the four corners remain whole. When they are made into a quilt of many colors, you should be able to find those matching middle top and side ones. They are the long thin strip. Also you should be able to find the four small patches that came from the center.
On ManiacQuilter2's quilt, I could not find those matching pieces. I'm sure I will lose sleep over this. LOL
Lyn Brown's next generation also has pieces that are not put together as in the directions. The bottom left square (almost square) is a gold print. There are 9 of these gold prints in this position in that quilt, but the little corner that has been cut off should be somewhere else with the black center square and parts of white strips in the quilt. I find none of these. I'm thinking this was computer generated.
I made one of these Next Generation D9P quilts (it's still a UFO) about 5 years ago. I also used black for the center squares and it is quite stunning. Time to get it out and finish it.

Dollyo - thanks for the explanation. It just didn't look like the traditional D9P, but it is. Optical illusion?
I've also done the magic D9P, but I found it way too fussy. I guess I'm a plain kind of gal.
